Job Boards and Job Aggregators
Within reason, the more you can extend your reach online and maximize your time, the more your job search should benefit. Job boards and job aggregators offer one way to do that, although they are not a "magic bullet" solution to getting connected with your most desirable job opportunities.
Job Boards (Job Search Websites)
The list of top job search websites (or job boards) varies over time, as older ones fade and new sites go online. Perhaps more important is the fact that the most well-known names, such as Monster, do not constitute the only game in town.
You will find three main types of job boards: general, executive, and niche. Job boards can serve as one tool in your job search. They should never be the only tool; their "success" rates are typically ranked by outside sources as being in the very low single-digits.
Note: Several sites serve as niche job board directories. These include nicheboards.com and targetedjobsites.com.
One feature of many job boards that you might consider using is a job agent, which you can set up to send email alerts. Be careful, though, to use this capability selectively or you could end up inundated with alerts.
Job Aggregators (Job Search Engines)
Job aggregators are vertical job search engines that consolidate job postings from a wide range of online sites. By crawling or spidering thousands of sites, they can present you with job opportunities to pursue far more easily and quickly than you could do on your own. You just need to set up your job specifications.
As with job search websites in general, the list of job search engines—including vertical job search engines (or aggregators) fluctuates from time to time. However, some of the major job aggregators include the following:
